It was always a fierce battle!  First, the coin toss to determine who would get Green and who would be stuck with Tan.  Green was Great and Tan was Terrible!  Then came the placement of troops.  Whoever won Green would leave the room while the owner of Tan would hide their 20 Tan Troops around the room – you had 4 minutes!  The the owner of Green would then hide his 20 troops – being sure to line up each soldier so that it could eliminate a Tan.  The key was the hidden Sniper.  You had to be sure to hide the Sniper under a dirty sock or Continue reading

Jesus gives 6 very clear statements about being one of His followers or disciples.  These are not requirements for salvation or forgiveness; rather they are conditions or evidences of being His disciple.

  • Mark of Discipleship #1 Hate
  • Mark of Discipleship #2  Suffer
  • Mark of Discipleship #3 Forsake
  • Mark of Discipleship #4 Abide
  • Mark of Discipleship #5 Love

Ask any farmer what he hopes to accomplish with his trade, and he will surely reply, “Produce a large harvest.”  In other words…Bear Fruit.  This metaphor is filled with teachable lessons for the Christian.  Perhaps this is why Jesus returns to this imagery often as He instructed His followers.

“By this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.” John 15:8 NASB

In the beginning, God chose to test and teach His creation.  He used:  Forbidden Fruit

Anyone who knows me knows that I have am not a cat lover!  I find them to be pretentious, self-absorbed and too good for their own fur.  Do I hate cats?  Well, for sure, I do not love them.  Having said that, would I intentionally harm a cat?  Um…well…OK, would I intentionally do something nice to or for a cat – NO!  Somehow, this has something to do with Love!

It’s a Guy Thing..!

I am sure we have all been in a conversation at one point or another where we are in the middle of describing something and we get frustrated because the person cannot understand what we are talking about.  Imagine a bunch of guys sitting around talking and some girls hear this :

“It’s only a flesh wound!”
“She turned me into a newt…but I got better.”
“This is supposed to be a happy occasion.  Let’s not bicker and argue over who killed who.”
“Run Away.  Run Away.”
“What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?”
“We want a shrubbery!”

The girls will then ask, “Why are you guys always quoting movie lines?  We don’t get it!” Continue reading

LESSONS FROM MY FATHER #3

I love going to restaurants, especially a fine restaurant.  I love the whole experience that comes from that brush with the “upper crust”, – escorted to a table especially reserved for me, “May I help you, Sir?”, cloth napkins, three forks, multiple plates,  words on the menu that I cannot pronounce – it is all an adventure that makes me wonder how many ways can I embarrass myself today.  Apparently, a Shrimp Cocktail does NOT contain alcohol and “creamy brulie” (Crème brûlée)  is spelled and pronounced very differently!

Music Lessons

To me, he is still my little boy – my Buddy!!  He is a fiery little toe-head running around the backyard jousting with army men and soldiers (he always called them “Guys”); he is building sand castles that fight none-stop battles; he is reigning down vengeance upon an evil ant colony with a ball-peen hammer.  The fact that now he is a husband and father successfully pursuing his dreams doesn’t change the fact that he is MY Little Boy!!
